Guide to Using Dexcom G7: What it is, How to Use, and FAQs
The Dexcom G7 is a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) that allows you to track your blood sugar levels continuously.
Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) has a number of benefits over a traditional glucometer, and it can lead to better blood sugar control. Many people with diabetes prefer using a CGM, because it offers convenience and comfort.
In 2025, Dexcom G7 became available in Singapore. Each Dexcom G7 sensor lasts for 10 days and can be worn either on your upper arm, abdomen or upper buttocks. Notably, the Dexcom G7 is 60% smaller than the G6, and does not require a separate transmitter like the G6, making it a more convenient option for users.
The Dexcom G7 is intended for use according to local regulatory approval and healthcare guidance. Not sure if your device is compatible with the Dexcom G7? Click here to find out.

How do I use the Dexcom G7 sensor?
For most people, one of the most attractive features of using a CGM is that you don’t need to perform fingersticks multiple times every day. Once you apply the sensor, it remains in place for a period of time. It’s water-resistant, allowing you to wear it while showering and even swimming. Here’s how to use it:
Step 1: Apply the sensor
Clean hands and prepare the insertion site
Apply the sensor according to the manufacturer’s instructions
Dispose of applicator after use
Step 2: Set up the app
Download the Dexcom G7 app
Enable Bluetooth and notifications
Enter or scan the sensor code
Follow on-screen instructions to complete setup
Step 3: Monitor glucose data
After the warm-up period, glucose readings will appear in the app
Users may view current glucose levels, trends, and historical data
Each sensor is designed to be worn for up to 10 days, in line with manufacturer guidance.

It’s important to note that any CGM, including the Dexcom G7, is not actually measuring the level of sugar in your blood. Instead, it’s measuring the level in your interstitial fluid, which is the fluid between the cells in your tissues. The level of sugar in this fluid is highly correlated with the level in your blood, and most of the time, measuring blood sugar in this way works well. However, it does take a few minutes for changes in your blood sugar to be reflected in your interstitial fluid. This may become relevant if you experience large and quick changes in blood sugar.
